APPROVAL POLICY GUIDELINE

1.         Web Site:

i.      Approved activities/events will be displayed on the IMA website under the CPD section. 

ii.     Activities/events not displayed in the "Approved" list section require approval by the IMA office. A formal online CPD Approval Form must be submitted. Each request will be reviewed by the IMA office within 2 to 4 weeks.

 

2.         Policy Guidelines for Formal In-House Training programs:

-       Formal in-house training programs will be recognized if the training is relevant to the member's property assessment profession. Specialized training such as Workplace Safety, CPR etc. do not qualify.

-       The online CPD Approval Form must be submitted when requesting approval. Approval requests will be evaluated based on length of training, complexity of content and relevancy to the property assessment profession etc.

 

3.         A.I.M.A Members Elevated to M.I.M.A Status during a Cycle:

-       While an A.I.M.A, the member must satisfy the appropriate amount of CPD hours for the time as an A.I.M.A., (e.g., one year requires eight (8) hours).

 

-       Once elevated to M.I.M.A. status, the member must complete the appropriate CPD hours required while an M.I.M.A. member, (e.g. One year requires ten (10) hours). In addition, the member must also complete any outstanding hours that may be owing while as an A.I.M.A member. The Accreditation Committee will address the CPD Credit status with the candidate during the M.I.M.A Accreditation interview process.            


4.         Capping Policy:

A maximum capping policy (up to 15.0 hrs.) will be applied for any single activities/events such as:

 

i.              Correspondence Courses, e-learning Courses, Webinar Sessions, In class Seminars, Conferences, Meeting Events, Presenters, Instructors, Markers, Speakers, IMA Committee members and other IMA Volunteer positions.

ii.             Principle of Capping - encourage members to undertake more than one activity/event to complete a CPD cycle.

iii.            CPD Credits are assigned at the sole discretion of the CPD Committee.

iv.            Maximum number of CPD credits may be approved based on the following:

                     - 1 day training = capped at up to 7.0 hrs

                     - ½ day training = capped at up to 4.0 hrs

 

5.         Maximum CPD Hours for Completion of the following activities. Each activity will be
            evaluated based on their own merits:

Notes:

-       For the above, there is a maximum of two (2) CPD claims per cycle.

-       IMA Course Markers may be eligible for the same number of hours that are approved for the course. The hours are dependent on the number of students enrolled, complexity of content and course duration.
 

-       Instructors and Presenters may be eligible for the actual Instruction/Presentation time. The time may be multiplied by two (2) to recognize preparation time. For example, an instructor who gives a two (2) hour instruction may be awarded a total of four (4) hours.

-       Speakers and Panel members may be eligible for actual presentation time. The time may be multiplied by two (2) to recognize preparation time. For example, a speaker who gives a one (1) hour presentation may be awarded a total of two (2) hours.

-       Activities performed as part of regular work place duties e.g. Staff Meetings, Stakeholder Meetings, Business Meetings, Policy and Procedural instructions, etc., do not qualify.
